Allah, The Creator, says, “And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive. (Saying) We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.” (Qur’an 76:8,9).
He also says, “Their flesh and their blood reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject unto you that ye may magnify Allah that He hath guided you. And give good tidings (O Muhammad) to the good.” (Qur’an 22:37)
The Muslim American Society Service Corps (MSC) is conducting its 4th national Udhyia Meat Drive, timed to coincide with the ritual sacrifices of ‘Eid ul-Adha which commemorates the practices and traditions of the Prophet Abraham. MAS Service Corps is the charity and volunteer service division of the Muslim American Society.
The project will be done on behalf of Muslims who designate their ‘Eid donation or “Udhiya/Qurbani” to the needy of our community, regardless of their faith.
Beef cattle, lamb, and goat will be slaughtered on December 8th or 9th, 2008 (dates will be subject to the determined day for Eid Ul-Adha), according to the Islamic tradition. The meat will be processed at the U.S.D.A. certified Halal processing facility. It will be scheduled to be received by participating MAS chapters and Islamic centers December 16th ~ 18th. It will be immediately distributed to established food banks and other designated locations nationwide for deserving Americans of all creeds.
In Austin, the meat will be distributed on Saturday December 20, 2008 to refugees and needy families, as well as local shelters, food banks and pantries.
The cost for each Udhiya is $160 for the lamb or the goat or 1/7 share of a cow. Donors may purchase the entire animal or designate one or more shares for distribution.
