Celebrating Ramadan Inter-faith Iftar
MAS Youth Bridge - Interfaith Iftar Dinner
The Muslim American Society (MAS), MAS Youth of Austin, and Muslim Youth of North America (MYNA), successfully conducted an interfaith Iftar, with the theme “Celebrating Ramadan”.
The event took place at Renaissance Academy, and was attended by a large crowd of 220 people from different faiths and backgrounds. The program included a short presentation about Islam, showing the video “A Land Called Paradise” (production of MAS Media Foundation), witnessing the Maghrib prayer, and enjoying delicious ethnic food during the Iftar. With God’s blessings, this was one of the biggest interfaith Iftars in Austin in many years!
The event is part of the MAS Ramadan Outreach Season 2008 national campaign launched by the MAS Service Corps (MSC) across the country. By inviting non-Muslims to share their Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are opening their houses, and defeating the negative images of Islam so prevalent in today’s world. Feeding your neighbor — despite their faith — encourages Muslims to spend in the way of Allah to "Do good to…the neighbor who is close by and to the neighbor who is a stranger, and the companion at your side, and to the traveler…" (4:36)
